Wedded Bliss by RueCeri 

I look for pretty things to help me forget that my head is about to explode and end up pretending that instead of having a 5-year anniversary this year, it's 25 or something vow-renewal worthy like that. Or maybe it's all the NyQuil making me believe that people other than celebrities and reality-show stars can justify spending over a grand to renew their vows, or even do renew them, for that matter. Do regular people ever do that?

Either way, I found some pretty pieces, and I'm not entirely sure that I'm even really typing right now { is this a dream? } so I'm going to go with it. If I could renew my vows, this is what I'd wear.

I got to have a Cinderella ball gown for my wedding, and, having idolized Cindy for years, I wouldn't change that. I present Exhibit A:  imitating Cinderella on Halloween and at Disney......and Exhibit B:  my own poofalicious wedding gown.

However, having gotten the princess poof out of my system, I'd go with more streamlined elegance to celebrate my whole 5 years of wedded bliss.  Isn't it lovely? I'm seeing it with an outdoor ceremony at dusk, followed by dancing in some sort of gauzy, fairy-lit tent draped in ivy and pale roses tied with dove gray ribbons and pearls. Intimate round tables would be decorated with vintage tea sets and candles with pearls, crystals, and rose petals strewn about.

Too bad I don't have any long-lost, ridiculously wealthy relatives out there who'd want to fund this.  Whose sole pleasure would be to provide for my completely unnecessary yet dreamily elegant wedding vow-renewal ceremony...

No one out there like that, eh? Anyone want to convince the Husband for me?

Edel Window Shopping

Remember this post about the Edelweiss by Sarah contest to win the Luther? Well, I've finally completed my second storyboard entry.  Last time I went waaaaaaay over the top with Louboutin heels, a clutch and jacket priced over a grand each (!), and diamond earrings so expensive I can't even bring myself to type the figure. I haven't become Queen or found any secret documents identifying the Husband as a prince since then, so for this round I decided to be realistic.

I entitled it "Edel Window Shopping" because I'm an English nerd like that {Idle, Edel-weiss...get it? No? Darn...} and because at the moment, all I'm doing is window shopping for these lovelies. But if I were to win the Luther, I'd celebrate by buying myself those darling brogues, the rose earrings, and some rouge for my lips. I might even be so excited I'd spring for the pricey clutch. I love the color it adds. And I'd definitely hope to find them all in one place in such an shabby chic shop.

But I'd settle for the internet :)  Wish me bonne chance*!

Edelweiss Extravagance

I'm just a little bit enamored with  Edelweiss by Sarah, and was over the moon when I discovered she was giving away one of her fabulously vintage styled silk dresses every month this year. Luck hasn't been with me thus far, but this time she's holding a little competition rather than leave it to chance. You can submit up to 2 storyboards depicting how you'd style her Luther dress, and at the end of May she'll choose her favorite. The creator wins the Luther! This is my first entry. I thought I'd indulge my inner blue-blooded fashionista before having a more realistic go. Just to exercise those frivolous tendencies that plague me so in case one day I have just cause for such extravagance. You know, by becoming Queen or something. What do you think? Introducing Lady Iris Copperfield of Cherry Tree Lane

That's my British Royal Wedding moniker.

Lady Iris Copperfield certainly sounds like the type of person who'd, at the very least, host a British tea party to commemorate the grand event. Complete with scones served with Devonshire cream and jam, treacle tarts, and faux diamond tiaras. Wills and Kate are my generation, after all, and what young Cinderella lover hasn't dreamed of being the commoner turned princess?

If I were to throw my fanciful fête, this is most certainly what I'd wear. With pearls, of course. It's the closest I have to British "morning dress." We'll just say my lord is kindly holding my gloves and bejeweled topper.

I got this suit from a little hole-in-the-wall shop carrying Bay-area estate sale finds. Just before leaving empty-handed, a flash of canary caught my eye from behind musty old blazers. And suddenly there it was. Precisely my size, for a mere 7 dollars. I kid not. I'm positively giddy at the possibilities this darling suit presents: a dark wig and big sunglasses as Jackie O for dress up days, summer picnics and croquet, afternoon spring weddings with sparkly jewels and feathers in a structured hat, polo tournaments followed by crumpets and tea with the Queen. Okay, so maybe I got a bit carried away with that last one. And maybe I don't have any afternoon spring wedding invitations to which I could wear it either. I certainly wasn't invited to the royal wedding, obviously. But I could wear it, were the opportunity to arise, and in top stylish form!

Considering Halloween's months away and it's still rather cold for picnics and croquet, I just took it for quick stroll by the lake. I will, mind you, wear it to some elegant fête* by the end of the summer. I may even find that perfect chapeau paré de bijoux* to go with it. You hold me to it.

Since I live on the West Coast, this means I'll be staying up all night, rather than getting up early. If an exam is worth an all nighter, a fairy tale certainly is!
